Assistive Listening Devices

What are Asssistive Listening Devices?

For very severe hearing losses or for moments when hearing aids are not worn, such as bedtime, other listening devices can help keep you safe and aware.  Below are a few examples:

  • Amplified home telephone
  • Digital wireless remote microphone technology – known as FM systems
  • Flashing lights or vibrating pager or bedshaker connected to:
    • Doorbell
    • Telephone and mobile phone
    • Smoke alarm
    • Alarm clocks
    • Baby monitor
  • Wireless amplified television headphones

Some devices also help address tinnitus (ringing in the ear):

  • Bedside sleep therapy systems
  • Optional pillow speaker
