Ringing, buzzing, humming, roaring. Many people experience sounds in their ears or head. A recent study by Statistics Canada suggests that 30 to 40% of Canadians (20 to 79 years of age) have experienced tinnitus in the past year.
The sound may be soft or loud, constant or intermittent, bothersome or not very bothersome. Tinnitus sometimes develops for no apparent reason but may also have an identifiable cause.
A hearing evaluation will provide insight into possible causes. Your audiologist can then make a medical referral as needed, explain the nature of your tinnitus and make helpful recommendations to address your tinnitus.
